Description

This Orange Chicken Recipe is a perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and savory flavors, making it an irresistible dish for dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken:

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the Sauce:

  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)
  • Sliced green onions and sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chicken:
    • In a shallow dish, combine cornstarch, flour, salt, and black pepper.
    • Dip the chicken pieces into the beaten eggs, then coat with the cornstarch mixture.
    • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken pieces until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
  • Make the Sauce:
    • In a saucepan, combine orange juice, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, orange zest, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes.
    • Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
    • Stir in the cornstarch mixture and cook until the sauce has thickened, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Combine and Serve:
    • Add the fried chicken pieces to the sauce and toss to coat evenly.
    • Serve hot, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

Tips:

  • For extra crispiness, double-fry the chicken pieces by frying them a second time for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  • You can add vegetables like bell peppers or broccoli to the dish for added nutrition and color.
